DERENNE HONORED
Keoni DeRenne, Iolani Class of 1997, was named the Portland, Maine Sea Dogs Citizen of the Year by a vote of fans.
The Sea Dogs are a Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
DeRenne, in his sixth season of professional baseball, "frequently volunteered for school appearances, clinics and camp visits. During these visits and clinics he shared his experience with fans about life as a baseball player, the importance of education and teamwork," a team release said.
DeRenne batted .224 in 74 games, with six doubles and one home run.
