2008 Ann Kang Invitational Volleyball Concludes

In the end, the mainland teams showed their prowess by capturing all spots in the Saturday championship rounds. The only local team to even make the championship round was 'Iolani.
The Saturday contenders were Newport Harbor, Los Alamitos, Wilson, Mira Costa, Corona Del Mar and Redondo.
The Raiders' last match was against Redondo and it was a great one. Redondo won the first game in a closely fought 25-22 score. The Raiders came back to take the second game with a score of 25-23. Redondo had too much left, though, as they ran away in the 15 point tiebreaker, 15-5.
Saturday saw Mira Costa continue its unbeaten streak, beating Wilson and Newport Harbor, before meeting Wilson again in the finals.
Mira Costa, led by 6'3" Falyn Fonoimoana, is a very, very strong team. Wilson was able to mount a very strong attack, though, and stretched Mira Costa to 3 games and a very exciting final with Wilson refusing to give up and constantly coming back. The final score was 26-24, 25-27 and 15-11.
