Comeback Victory Over St. Louis, 26-19

by Al Linsky

This game started out badly for the Raiders as the Crusaders got loose for two touchdowns in the first quarter. The first was at 7:05 while the second was at 4:11. Both extra points were missed as the quarter ended with the Crusaders leading 12-0.

At 7:23 of the second quarter, Andrew Okimura got free to make it 12-6. The Raiders also missed the extra point.

Two minutes later the Crusaders scored again to make 19-6.

Jordan Lee then got one back with 3:40 left in the half to tighten the score to 19-12,

In the third quarter, it was Andrew Okimura with his second touchdown and this time the extra point was good. 19-19.

It would remain tied until 5:38 of the fourth quarter as Andrew turned what looked like a loss into a touchdown as he just refused to go down. The extra point was good to make it 26-19. The Raiders defense then held the Crusaders and gave the offense the opportunity to run out the clock.

Although there were many great plays in this game, there were two that really caught my attention.

The first was when Josh Hannum, at quarterback, found himself running around the left end. He absorbed a tremendous hit (actually a few, but one of them was a real cruncher) but hardly reacted and kept going for about a 20 yard gain.

The other was late in the game when St. Louis had a fourth down and less than a yard to go. This was an important play for the Crusaders as they still had a good chance if they could get the first down. They handed off to #33 who was really having a great day with many yards and touchdowns, but Scott Tan was there and brought him down for a loss and change of possession.

This was a great win!
